چکیده

Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) are an increasing threat to Patagonian environments and communities. Here, we investigate the geomorphological hydrological impacts of a historical GLOF from Chile's third largest river (Pascua River), which discharges at head Baker Fjord (48°S). To do so, maps satellite imagery past century recent bathymetric data were examined, 1.4 m long sediment core taken ~4 km offshore Pascua River mouth was analyzed. Geomorphological suggest that two main subaerial channels fjord-head delta extend subaqueously as submarine channels. The on flank channel evaluate changes in activity through time. Results show sediments composed distinct units separated by 6-cm thick sandy turbidite dated 1945?10+8 CE. Historical evidence suggests event deposit corresponds ~ 256 × 106 m3 proglacial lake Lucía Glacier (Bergues Lake) discharged into River. Before CE, sedimentation coring site consisted coarse silt fine sand, likely representing deposition turbidity currents. After very silts clays, settling surficial plume. This switch timing abandonment eastern distributary represents reorganization hydrology fjord-river system caused CE GLOF. study provides first report northeastern part Southern Icefield, it demonstrates GLOFs can have long-lasting downstream systems.

Investigation of climate change impacts on streamflow regime of a river Arazkooseh River Basin

In this research, impacts of climate change on the streamflow hydrological status of the Arazkooseh River are discussed. After Calibration and validation of the LARS-WG, HadCM3 was downscaled under A2 Scenario in three climatology station. Beside, calibration and validation of the SWAT model were done by observed data relative to past period of times. Streamflow values are then predicted using ...

Paleohydraulics of the last outburst flood from glacial Lake Agassiz and the 8200 BP cold event

During the last deglaciation of North America, huge proglacial lakes formed along the southern margin of the Laurentide Ice Sheet. The largest of these was glacial Lake Agassiz, which formed about 11:7 C kyr and drained into Hudson Bay about 7:7 C kyr ð8:45 cal kyrÞ: Overflow from these lakes was variably directed to the Mississippi, St. Lawrence and Mackenzie drainage systems and it is thought...

Columbia River flood basalts from a centralized crustal magmatic system

The Columbia River Basalt Group in the northwestern United States, comprising about 230,000 cubic kilometres of rock, exhibits unusual patterns in lava distribution, geochemistry and its apparent relationship to regional tectonics. Consequently, there is little consensus on the origin of its magmas. Here, we examine the isotopic ratios of Sr, Nd, Pb and Os and traceelement abundances in Columbi...

An eutrophication model for a lowland river-lake system

Natural and man induced nutrient loads affect the functioning of freshwater ecosystems and restrict various water uses. In particular, internal pollution by nutrient remobilisation from sediment plays an important role in shallow water bodies. A sustainable management of such freshwater ecosystems can be achieved by using simulation models. To forecast the eutrophication process of a shallow ri...
